Stand 1 Metre from the Net โ Not 2
The Situation
You are at the net but keep backing up when opponents wind up for a shot.
What To Do
Hold your position 1 to 1.5 metres from the net. Resist every instinct to retreat. Only move back for a lob โ never for a groundstroke or passing shot.
Why It Works
The closer you stand to the net the larger the angles you can create and the less reaction time opponents have. Backing up to 2 metres gives opponents room to play at your feet comfortably. This is the single most common positioning error among intermediate players according to professional coaches.
Court Positioning
Both net players hold position 1โ1.5m from net. Opponents at baseline cannot generate low angle to their feet. Net pair intercepts any mid-height reply.
