Keep Your Body Facing Diagonally โ Not Sideways
The Situation
You are at the net and trying to watch both the ball and your opponents simultaneously.
What To Do
Stand with your body at a 45-degree diagonal angle โ not square to the net, not fully sideways. This allows you to see the ball, your partner, and both opponents at once.
Why It Works
A square stance limits peripheral vision. A diagonal stance opens your visual field so you can read the whole court simultaneously. Professional coaches identify this as the default net stance โ it improves both reaction time and decision-making quality.
Court Positioning

Skill Level
Never Both Players on the Same Side of the Court
During a rally you realize you and your partner are both on the same side of the court.
Never Stop in the Transition Zone
You are moving forward after a return and feel comfortable stopping between the service line and the net.
Split Step Before Every Opponent Shot
You are at the net or moving around the court and find yourself late to react to balls.
