Never Stop in the Transition Zone
The Situation
You are moving forward after a return and feel comfortable stopping between the service line and the net.
What To Do
Never stop there. Commit fully to the net or stay at the baseline. The mid-court zone between the service line and the net is a dead zone โ it has no advantages.
Why It Works
The transition zone is the worst place to receive a ball in padel: too far back for an aggressive volley, too close for a comfortable groundstroke. Stopping there gives opponents an easy target at your feet with no good response available. This is consistently cited by coaches as the most costly positional mistake at intermediate level.
Court Positioning
Transition zone marked between service line and net (no-man's land). Ball at feet here โ cannot volley, cannot groundstroke cleanly โ easy point for opponents. Arrows show: commit to net OR stay back.

Skill Level
Never Both Players on the Same Side of the Court
During a rally you realize you and your partner are both on the same side of the court.
Split Step Before Every Opponent Shot
You are at the net or moving around the court and find yourself late to react to balls.
Never Have One Player at Net and One at Baseline
After a shot one player is at the net and their partner is still at the baseline.
