Pre-Rotate Your Feet Before the Ball Hits the Wall
The Situation
You are moving to play a back wall ball and need to set your position.
What To Do
Before the ball reaches the wall, rotate your hips so your non-dominant shoulder faces the back wall. This pre-rotation means you are already set when the ball arrives.
Why It Works
Footwork on wall balls is the difference between a clean strike and a blocked mis-hit. Players who arrive at the wall with feet parallel cannot swing freely. Pre-rotating creates the space to hit through the ball rather than poking at it. This is standard technique at every professional academy.
Court Positioning
Player reads ball heading to back wall โ rotates hips (right shoulder toward wall for right-hander) BEFORE ball hits โ feet set in hitting stance as ball rebounds โ full free swing.
Court View
Bird's-eye view โ attacking net position
Skill Level
The Wall Slows Down โ Wait For It
A ball bounces off the back wall toward you fast and you feel rushed.
Bajada: Attack the Wall Ball at Waist Height
The ball bounces and comes off the back wall at a comfortable waist-to-chest height.
Default: Lob After Every Wall Ball
You have just played a ball off the back or side wall.
